I used to have the black screen problem as well on my SEK 3500 but since returning it and receiving a replacement it's been trouble free now for over 4 months. I've had Sky Q for 8 months so it's definitely the SEK 3500 & not Sky's equipment. Try wiggling the lead between the TV & the One Connect box and you may well find it induces the black screen problem.

This happened to me ( and others on this forum in the past ) but changing the lead made no difference hence the return of the box for a replacement. Although the Sky handshaking problems are well reported regardless of TV brand, glad your fix worked (wonder if the new box has HDMI CEC disabled)? By the by, I've given up a little bit on the SEK3500, with YouTube, it seems that you have to be standing on one leg whilst singing a song, and stirring a coffee to get 4K to come up, whereas, my newly installed Virgin TiVo V6 locks on straight away. Don't like how they set up the V6 though, the upscaler in it is a bit rubbish (compared to the SEK3500), so - if anyone else gets one, be sure to set up for 1080i/p and also 2160 passthrough, will look a lot better. Edit - Funnily enough, with the V6 TiVo, I'm now also getting a (what I assume to be the same) black screen issue - but, it is attributed to when the TiVo changes the screen resolution (1080/50 - 2160/30 - 2160/24 - 1080/50) - I could fix the TiVo down to upscale everything, in which case, that goes away - but, as mentioned pre-edit, I don't like what TiVo does to 1080 - would rather have the SEK3500 do the upscaling. Guess it's something I'll need to get used to. This has to be the poorest 'upgrade' i`ve ever come across.

Click to expand. That seems real bad from bestav as aware many of you never ordered the cheaper gray imports due to claims on their website of Can I use a non-UK version of this kit? We strongly recommend against using a non-UK version of this kit. The UK version has been built specifically to work with UK televisions and includes UK features such as Freeview HD and BBC iPlayer. Moreover, there may be several firmware differences on the non-UK kit that may mean it won't work correctly with UK televisions, or may even cause a UK television to break down. Samsung will NOT support a non-UK kit used on a UK television, and by using a non-UK kit you will invalidate the warranty so if you choose to use a non-UK version it is at your own risk. When I try the uhd video pack the hu8500/sek3500 can see the 'USB' device, plus the respective folders. But it doesn't show any files/contents I did fill out a Samsung tech email asking them to fix. Their response, 'the video pack is not compatible with the set-3500'!!?? I replied back with: the sek-3500 is an approved upgrade for my TV, at no point have I read that upgrading would render the pack unusable. In addition I referenced this forum and your feedback. That was last Saturday (11th), I received an initial acknowledgement for the mail receipt, but no response since.

The customer can still reject the item after it’s been repaired or replaced. A customer has accepted an item if they’ve:. told you they’ve accepted it (having had enough opportunity to inspect the item before confirming they’ve received it).
altered the item You must repair or replace an item if a customer returns it within 6 months - unless you can prove it wasn’t faulty when they bought it. You can ask a customer to prove an item was faulty when they bought it if they ask for a repair or replacement after 6 months. BestAV are hiding behind this, so basically I need to prove it was faulty when purchased. Have done some reading up on this as I felt a bit silly that I didn't really know what our rights are. The 6 months thing isn't new apparently, but all it refers to is where you bought it from. Up to 6 months, its their responsibility to sort out.
This doesn't affect your standard UK 12 months warranty or your rights under the Sale of Goods Act. Anything up to 12 months and Samsung have to resolve it. Even past 12 months, you can push Samsung to resolve matters throughout life expectancy of the TV (most articles quote 6-8 years for LED TV's). I've never heard of an electrical retailer not supporting consumer issues between 6-12 months, and as pointed out, its a bit naff of BestAV to take that attitude considering the amount of scaremongering they did with selling those evo kits.
